The Hillsdale City Council on March 16 approved several contracts and an appointment during its regular meeting.
Jessica Flaugher, director of Domestic Harmony, presented the organization’s 2025 annual report and sought a $7,500 contract for the coming year. Councilman Robert Socha moved and Councilman William Morrisey seconded approval; the motion carried 5-3. Roll-call records show Councilmen Jacob Bruns and Joshua Paladino voted against the contract.
Council later considered bids for municipal mowing services (Types A, B, C, D, F and G) and on a motion by Councilman Socha, seconded by Councilman Morrisey awarded the work to Finish Line Property Solution in the amount of $402,904.25. The mowing contract passed on a 7-1 vote; Councilman Paladino cast the sole Nay vote.
In miscellaneous business the council unanimously approved the appointment of David Morris to the Airport Advisory Committee. The council also received an appreciation letter read by City Manager David Mackie recognizing BPU mutual-aid assistance after a March 6 tornado. Public comments during the meeting included submissions and GIS copies provided by Joseph Hendee regarding the Lifeways property.
The consent agenda, approved at the start of the meeting, included City and BPU claims totaling $1,442,950.17, payroll of $215,264.02 and minutes from several boards and commissions.
