Union City Council approves canoe/kayak launch contract, clears liens and grant awards

The Council voted to remove a lien of approximately $2,690 on 121 East High Street, a property that was donated to the Erie County Landbank. Councilor Kerns moved to remove the lien for the full amount; Councilor Steadman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Councilors reviewed quotes for a canoe/kayak launch at the American Legion ball field. Because the estimated cost was under $23,200, formal bidding was not required. Construction Services of PA submitted the lowest quote, $16,679.00. Councilor Osborn moved to accept the $16,679.00 quote contingent on receiving an easement from the American Legion; Councilor Kerns seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
On community development funding, the Council approved seven recommended Renaissance Grant applications. The projects total $60,606 in proposed work and requested $23,600 in grant funding; the Renaissance fund balance was reported as $90,547.35. Councilor Steadman moved to approve the seven awards for a total of $23,600; Councilor Osborn seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The Council also passed a resolution accepting the Erie Area Council of Government (EACOG) audit report after COG members reviewed the audit. The motion to accept the audit was moved by Councilor Osborn, seconded by Councilor Steadman, and carried unanimously.
Manager Cindy Wells said the Borough will send a letter of support for a PennDOT Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program application along the U.S. Route 6 corridor. Council also noted the towing ordinance will not be advertised for bids at this time.
