Rolfe council approves collections contract, worker raises and property cleanup assessments

Mayor Jim Pentico called the Rolfe City Council to order Dec. 8, 2025, where the council voted on a package of administrative and budget items that included a contract for third‑party collections and modest wage increases for city employees.
The council voted to enter an agreement with Municipal Collections of America (MCA) to collect outstanding debts owed to the City of Rolfe, approving Resolution 761 by roll call (Pratt, Cox, Minkler, Jackson, Allen voted yes). Council members said the move follows Auditor recommendations and a need to clear overdue proprietary balances.
The meeting also approved Resolution 762 to raise two full‑time city employees by $1.00 per hour and two part‑time employees by $0.50 per hour after a separate motion to grant a 3% raise failed for lack of a second. Resolution 762 was approved by roll call with Pratt, Cox, Minkler, Jackson and Allen voting yes.
Council approved a $2,300 bid from The Goat Junk Removal to clean up 806 Arthur St. and authorized assessing that charge against the property (motion Allen/Cox, all ayes). The council authorized a $2,800 bid from Schoon Tree Service to remove four trees at Sunset Ridge; those funds will be paid from remaining GO Bond proceeds. A $50 gas water‑heater rebate for Chres Westergaard was also approved.
Treasurer Sindergard presented October and November financial reports; the council set its first budget workshop for Jan. 6, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. and voted to renew annual medical and dental insurance plans at the quoted rates.
Clerk Brandi Henderson told the council a flyer posted in Heartland listing dollar amounts for nuisance expenses contained inaccuracies, urging residents "please don’t assume all things you hear are correct." Mayor Pentico warned that residents have been placing household garbage and junk in community recycling trailers and said "if this continues, they will be taken away."
The council voted to defer decisions about purchasing 806 Arthur St. and 807 Elm St. and about selling other city properties to the incoming council; the Oath of Office was administered to newly elected officials who will assume office Jan. 1, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
