Rolfe council schedules pay hearing and approves conditional $23/hour job offer

Rolfe — The City Council of the City of Rolfe on Monday set a public hearing on proposed changes to mayor and council pay and approved a conditional job offer after a brief special meeting at the community center.

Mayor Jim Pentico called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. City Clerk Brandi Henderson recorded roll call: Councilmembers Lana Pratt, Aaron Cox, Dan Allen and Rob Jackson (participating by phone) were present; Allan Minkler arrived later. Councilmember Aaron Cox moved and Councilmember Dan Allen seconded a motion to set a public hearing on an ordinance to change mayor and council pay for Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.; the roll-call vote (Jackson, Cox, Pratt, Allen) was recorded as all ayes.

The council entered closed session at 5:06 p.m. “upon the request of the interviewee” under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(i), according to the meeting record. Allan Minkler arrived at 5:28 p.m.; the council voted to exit closed session at 5:39 p.m. (motion by Pratt, second by Cox; roll call recorded Jackson, Minkler, Allen, Pratt, Cox, all ayes).

After returning to open session, Councilmember Allan Minkler moved and Councilmember Lana Pratt seconded a motion to offer an applicant $23.00 per hour, contingent on completion of an acceptable background check and drug screen. The roll-call vote (Pratt, Cox, Jackson, Allen, Minkler) was all ayes and the offer was approved. The minutes do not specify the applicant’s name.

Councilmember Aaron Cox and Councilmember Dan Allen moved to adjourn at 5:50 p.m.; the meeting ended by unanimous voice or roll call. The public hearing on mayor and council pay is scheduled for Oct. 13, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the community center.
