The Hempstead Town Board on June 23 closed several public hearings and approved a series of local measures related to parking and traffic, and handled its administrative calendar.
The clerk called public hearings on: a proposed local law to limit parking in West Hempstead; a proposed local law adding parking/standing prohibitions in portions of East Meadow, East Rockaway, Seaford and West Hempstead; traffic regulations in the vicinity of West Hempstead schools; and proposed handicap parking on public streets in Baldwin and West Hempstead. For each item the board closed the hearing, moved to approve and recorded unanimous "aye" votes. No members of the public addressed those four hearings during the formal hearings.
On the administrative calendar (items 6—1) the town attorney recommended tabling item 11 to allow additional review by the planning department. The board voted to table item 11 and later approved the remainder of the administrative calendar (items 6—1 excluding 11). The board then adjourned the formal portion of the meeting and continued with a public-comment period.
Recorded board votes in the formal portion were unanimous where recorded (seven ayes); tabling of item 11 received the same board support. The board did not take public votes against any of these items at the June 23 meeting.
The board's clerk and the town attorney will coordinate additional review for item 11 and report back at a future meeting; no further details on the grant referenced in item 11 were provided in the hearing record.
