Several Robins City residents used the Feb. 2 public-comment period to press the council to resume clearing snow from Main Street sidewalks.
Richard Starks of 500 Mary Jo Avenue thanked the council for considering his request and said the lack of sidewalk clearing places hardship on residents. Councilor Mike Foley said he personally cleared the sidewalk at Mr. Starks’ property, described overgrown grass narrowing a five-foot sidewalk to about four feet, and said the city lacks appropriate equipment to clear sidewalks. Chase Stinger said access behind Mary Jo Avenue homes is difficult and said he and his wife will not clear that path.
The council discussed Chapter 71 of the municipal code regarding sidewalk snow removal, weighing equipment costs, estimates for subcontracting, the possibility of ordinance exceptions, and liability concerns. No formal action was taken; the council will revisit the issue on Feb. 16 after additional cost estimates are received.
The Feb. 2 minutes record these public comments and the council’s continued deliberation; no vote or ordinance amendment occurred at the meeting.
