The Lincoln County budget panel recessed its review of the superintendent of schools’ 2026–27 budget on May 18 after staff discovered the wrong worksheet had been provided.
The superintendent of schools presented a draft budget to the panel and said the packet distributed to members did not yet include employee salaries and contribution lines. "So before you you have my budget for the 2627 year. Um everybody's got a copy of it," the superintendent said, noting she would follow up with finance staff to correct line-item coding.
Committee members raised questions about several line items, including a larger-than-expected postage figure and higher printing costs tied to the district spelling bee. The superintendent said she would check with finance staff, specifically "Wendy," and confirm which accounts — such as travel, professional services and contract services — should carry particular charges.
During the review participants found the top of the worksheet appeared to be coded for elections rather than the superintendent’s office, prompting concern that members had been given the wrong budget. The chair recessed the meeting to allow staff to retrieve the correct budget pages and reschedule the superintendent’s presentation when the finance office was open.
Officials asked the superintendent to provide corrected, final pages once payroll and contribution figures were available so the committee could complete its review.
