Milo council approves proposed FY2027 property tax levies, sets April 6 public hearing

The Milo City Council on Feb. 2 approved Resolution 2026-08 to set the city’s proposed FY2027 property tax levies and scheduled a public hearing for 7 p.m. on April 6, 2027, at City Hall, 100 Main Street.

The council approved the resolution on a roll-call motion by Councilmember Rasmussen, seconded by Amsden. The vote was Amsden, Rasmussen, Rodgers and Mason in favor; Councilmember Griggs was absent.

The action comes as the council continued an FY2027 budget session during which the clerk reviewed the Combined General Fund levy, the Liability Insurance Property Tax levy, the FICA/IPERS levy and the Employee Benefits levy. The clerk told the council the budget process requires two public hearings: one to explain the maximum tax levies and a second to allow public questions before final approval.

During the budget discussion, council members focused on whether to offer an insurance stipend for employees who are eligible for but decline Milo’s health insurance because they are on Medicare or have other coverage. The handbook identifies three positions affected by the policy: the Library Director, the Maintenance Director and the City Clerk/Treasurer. The council directed the clerk to research stipend options and return with details at the next meeting.

After passage of the resolution, the clerk provided line-item context on revenue and expenditure estimates for FY2027 and the council discussed those estimates; council did not adopt a final budget at the Feb. 2 meeting.

The council set its next meeting for Feb. 16, 2026, when the clerk is expected to report back on the stipend research and other budget details.
