Milo City Council adopts community center fee, employee handbook changes and fire stipend; approves deck permit

The Milo City Council on May 4, 2026, approved a set of routine measures including a public-use fee for the community center, personnel policy updates and a new stipend for the Fire Department.
Motion by Councilmember Griggs, seconded by Councilmember Mason, the council adopted Resolution 2026-13 approving a $3,809 public-use fee to provide winter-walking access to the Milo Community Center; the council noted that the fee will be paid from the Local Option Sales Tax. In the same segment Councilmember Griggs moved, seconded by Mason, to adopt Resolution 2026-14 updating the employee handbook and authorizing an insurance stipend; both motions passed with Councilmembers Griggs, Mason and Rodgers voting aye and Councilmembers Amsden and Rasmussen absent.
Separately, under new business the council approved Resolution 2026-11 establishing a Fire Department stipend program (motion by Mason, second by Rodgers) and granted a deck permit for 103 Walnut Street (motion by Griggs, second by Rodgers). The council also directed the City Clerk to contact Iowa Codification with questions about the Milo Code of Ordinances.
The consent agenda — including accounts payable for April 21–May 4, 2026 totaling $46,355.16 and the April 20, 2026 meeting minutes — was approved earlier in the meeting on a motion by Councilmember Rodgers and a second from Councilmember Mason.
The council set its next meeting for Monday, June 1, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
