The Sac City Council met Feb. 25 and unanimously approved a package of routine and substantive items, including vendor claims totaling $47,223.34 and two Class E retail alcohol license renewals.
A consent-agenda motion by Councilmember Tom Lownik, seconded by Councilmember Teresa Bruening, carried on a roll-call vote listing Councilmembers Larry Mahler, Bob Murley, Kayla Shull, Bruening and Lownik as ayes. The claims list included a $31,475.30 charge to Sac County Solid Waste AG for past tipping fees and several equipment and maintenance charges such as $4,313.10 for fire-department pump parts and $2,990.33 for fuel purchases.
The council then moved to a public hearing on a real estate conveyance for the Deer Run Addition. After no comments were offered, Councilmember Tom Lownik moved and Councilmember Larry Mahler seconded Resolution No. 2025-05, 'Resolution approving real estate conveyance.' The council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
During public comment, Barb Rench addressed the council regarding arrangements for Chautauqua Day’s wiener dog races.
Edgar Ramos asked the council for partial sewer forgiveness related to an outside water leak. Councilmember Teresa Bruening moved and Councilmember Bob Murley seconded a motion to forgive the sewer charges above Ramos’s average monthly usage; the council approved the motion on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Finally, the council set a public hearing on the fiscal year 2026 proposed property tax levy. Councilmember Tom Lownik introduced the item; Councilmember Teresa Bruening moved and Councilmember Larry Mahler seconded Resolution No. 2025-06 to set the hearing, and the motion passed unanimously. The resolution as presented sets a hearing date (not specified in the minutes), which is the next formal step before the council can adopt a levy.
Committee and department head reports followed and the council adjourned at 5:19 p.m.
