Sabula council approves attorney reappointment, emergency spending authority and a string of local measures

At its April 28 meeting the Sabula City Council approved a series of routine and operational measures, including the reappointment of the city attorney, new emergency spending authority, ordinance amendments and infrastructure actions.
Among the measures passed, the council reappointed Robert McGee as city attorney for two years by approving Resolution #1381 and approved Resolution #1387 to authorize standard expenditures and establish emergency spending authority. The council authorized staff to pursue a Corps permit to repair both boat ramps and remove debris to enable dual-ramp use at the north ramp. The council also approved a special building permit for a utility shed at 707 Broad Street and set a public hearing for May 26, 2026 on vacating city property at 213 Broad Street (recorded votes: E. Shoemaker, J. Diercks, D. Ward and M. O’Hara voted aye; S. Hibbard abstained).
On personnel and operations, the council voted not to rehire a part-time mower (recorded ayes: J. Diercks, S. Hibbard, E. Shoemaker; recorded nay: D. Ward) and agreed to hold off on hiring a police reserve officer after Police Chief Nixon requested the item be scratched because of the city’s financial situation. Councilmembers moved forward with ordinance amendments to Title III (Community Protection) covering traffic code updates and impoundment fees, and approved the purchase of a flashing stop-sign beacon to improve traffic safety. Department reports for April were filed and the council adjourned.
