Orange County commissioners approve multiple advisory-board appointments, leave key resident seat open

During the May 12 work session, the Orange County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of appointments to local advisory bodies by consensus, filling several vacancies while leaving a few seats open for further recruitment.
Tara May, Deputy Clerk to the Board, introduced multiple board items. The Board reappointed Matthew Ferguson, Mary Towell, and Alicia Reid to the Affordable Housing Advisory Board (AHAB) and appointed Allison Freeman, Giovanna Mollinedo, Christopher Oneal, Josmell Perez, and Anthony Williams to at-large seats to fill vacancies. The AHAB advises the Board on affordable-housing priorities and project assessments.
On the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, the Board reappointed Melvin Green and designated him as the local ABC chair pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 18B-700. The Board also appointed Dr. Melinda Pankratz to an upcoming vacancy.
The Board reappointed Cathy Munnier to the Animal Services Advisory Board and appointed Mary O’Dor to the Arts Commission. The Jury Commission reappointment of Sylvia Smith was approved. For the Orange County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC), the Board set term-expiration dates for seats and appointed Gayane Chambless to an at-large seat; staff noted continued effort to ensure representation from both local school districts.
On the Orange County Housing Authority, commissioners appointed Camila Hargett to an at-large seat but agreed to continue recruitment for the Resident Member position after questions were raised about an applicant’s intentions. The Clerk’s Office will continue recruitment for that vacancy.
Most actions were recorded as consensus approvals rather than roll-call votes. The Board directed staff to update rosters, notify appointees, and publish updated membership information.
