Planning Board tells state to fix omissions in bridge-replacement filing; asks for ADA sidewalk and guardrail design

At the May 4, 2026 meeting the Town of Red Hook Planning Board reviewed a Coastal Management Program (CMP) submission from the New York State Department of State and found the filing truncated, missing references to the Town of Red Hook’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) policies and containing incorrect answers, the board said.
Town Planner and Planning Board consultant Ted Fink presented a draft response letter and attachments. Board members discussed the existing bridge conditions, noting the current sidewalk does not meet ADA standards and that guardrails are attached at all four corners where protection from steep drop-offs is needed. The board agreed to suggest that the design parameters explicitly include guardrails and cited the Broadway bridge entering the Village of Tivoli as an example where a stone-wall railing is more appropriate for the setting.
The Planning Board asked that these comments be included in the town’s formal response to the CMP submission so the state’s reviewing agencies receive complete information about local LWRP policies and the town’s design expectations. No formal vote on the bridge design was recorded; the board approved including the comments in the response letter drafted by the Town Planner.
