Shelby City Council approves $500 clothing allowance for Public Works and authorizes construction payments

At its Feb. 18 meeting the Shelby City Council approved a $500 clothing allowance for Public Works employees, authorized payment draws totaling $66,116 for two housing projects, postponed a housing proposal until a member can attend, and set May dates for citywide events.
Mayor Ron Kroll presided over the Shelby City Council’s regular session on Feb. 18, 2025. Council members Traci True, Pat Honeywell, Todd Frank, Jackie Hursey and Karen Schlueter were present, and city staff and others attended.
The council approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Council member Pat Honeywell, seconded by Council member Todd Frank. Mayor Ron Kroll asked for conflicts of interest and none were declared.
Council member Karen Schlueter moved, and Council member Todd Frank seconded, to provide city Public Works employees a $500 clothing allowance. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of all ayes.
On a motion by Council member Pat Honeywell, seconded by Council member Todd Frank, the council approved payment requests related to housing work: Draw #2 for $31,000 for the Daniels house, noted as framing completed, and $35,116 for the Willet House, with payment due upon completion of framing. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of all ayes.
Council member Honeywell asked that funds be included in the budget for landscaping around the dry pond at The Meadows subdivision, and Council member Jackie Hursey noted she has two companies providing bids for Pickleball courts. The council postponed a separate housing proposal because Council member Jamie Somerville was not present and will place that item on the next agenda when Somerville can attend.
The council set the Citywide Garage Sale for Saturday, May 10, 2025, and Citywide Curbside Clean Up for Monday, May 12, 2025. Later in the meeting, on a motion by Council member Pat Honeywell and seconded by Council member Karen Schlueter, the claims list was approved by unanimous roll call.
