Shelby council discusses combined community building, fire hall and daycare options

Tara Goldsberry, who leads the architecture design work for V&K, briefed the council on the concept and said the first step is for her to meet with fire-department representatives to determine their needs and to develop a plan, budget and timeline. Goldsberry characterized the meeting with department staff as necessary to align program requirements and schedule planning.
Council Member Traci True told the council a contact had suggested the town consider purchasing the downtown old funeral building and repurposing it as a daycare to address a local shortage of childcare. The council agreed to schedule a walkthrough of that building and to proceed with follow-up steps if the site appears suitable.
No formal motions or votes were recorded during the session. City Clerk Chris Martin and Mayor Kroll’s signature lines appear on the meeting record. The council indicated it will pursue the next planning steps — Goldsberry meeting fire representatives and a council walkthrough of the old funeral building — before returning with more detailed proposals or budget requests.
