Shelby City Council approves consent agenda, sets April 15 public hearing on FY 2025–26 budget

Honeywell moved, with Frank seconding, to set a public hearing on the fiscal year 2025–26 budget for April 15, 2025; the motion passed by unanimous roll call. The council also approved parameters for an Economic Development Grant program that will allow applicants to seek up to $4,000 for minor downtown building restorations and improvements, requiring a 50 percent local match.
The council voted to pay an estimated $8,500 for an electric upgrade for Cory Williams of Western Iowa Ice. Members approved the final design for the Shelby Veteran Memorial Park based on the final draft; the design passed on a 4–1 roll call (Jackie Hursey, Pat Honeywell, Todd Frank and Traci True voted yes; Karen Schlueter voted no).
Other consent items approved included a $7,867.95 quote for a wastewater lift station electric pump, hiring CJ’s Landscaping of Missouri Valley to plant and maintain berms at AgSymbol Park, and offering seasonal mowing employment to applicant Jerry Indermuehle at $15 per hour.
The council approved purchase of an ambulance chassis for $67,021.22; the minutes state half the cost will be covered by Fire & Rescue Department fundraising and the other half by a Fire & Rescue investment account listed in the minutes as “Ipait.”
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m. City Clerk Chris Martin and Mayor Ron Kroll signed the minutes.
