Board Member Loughary moved to approve a $68,790 proposal for updates and repairs at the Hwy 62/25 lift station and a $138,540 proposal for infrastructure updates at the Francis lift station; Board Member Woods seconded and the motion passed. Public Works Superintendent Kurt Krepps had told the board the Hwy 62/25 station is operating on a diesel bypass pump and needs replacement pumps and associated repairs. Krepps described recurring problems that damage pumps, including sand ingress and nonbiodegradable items (noted as baby wipes) clogging and burning out pumps.
Utility Director Ivone Smith said the Francis lift station is in worse condition, is currently 'hotwired' but operating, and requires replacement of wet well pipework, a new control panel and new pumping equipment to ensure reliable service. Smith advised the board that approving the Vandevanter work is intended to address those immediate reliability and safety concerns.
At the same meeting the board accepted a DNR award of $62,500 for a water/wastewater engineering study, which requires a $12,500 city match. Utility Director Smith asked the board to authorize acceptance so she could formally accept the grant award; Board Member Woods moved to accept the funding, Board Member Loughary seconded, and the motion passed.
The minutes show the board also received a power‑plant update from Electric Production Superintendent Drew Miller, who reported the power plant cooling tower had been replaced with assistance from the electric crew. Finance Officer Angela Earnheart had no questions from board members on the financial reports presented.
