Fremont Transit reports ridership growth, seeks $984,000 grant to expand service

Fremont Transit staff reported to the Dodge County Board of Supervisors on April 2 that the service has surpassed 10,000 rides since it launched in September 2023 and is seeking roughly $984,000 in grant funding for fiscal years 2026–27 to support expansion.
Program Manager Dakota Buesing gave the Board an update on the 2024 annual report, saying the program’s growth has prompted plans to acquire a larger vehicle — allowing more riders to be taken to common destinations with fewer trips — to hire an additional driver and to expand service into parts of Dodge County not currently covered. Staff said a resident survey has been developed to assess transportation needs outside of Fremont.
City of Fremont Grant Coordinator Angie Olson said the city will reach out to Dodge County in May to discuss what the county will be willing to obligate to the program should the grant be approved. Olson also described potential partnerships with neighboring county transit programs and with organizations that are frequent trip destinations for Fremont Transit riders.
Buesing and Olson told the Board they anticipate less available federal funding in the forthcoming two‑year grant cycle and are planning accordingly; the Board received the report and will consider any county obligations when contacted by city staff next month.
