Dodge County Board of Equalization acts on 91 valuation protests; assesses penalties and authorizes notices

The Board of Equalization reviewed property valuation protests and acted on 91 parcels: denied changes on 48 parcels, lowered building values on 41 parcels and lowered land values on two. The Board also upheld a 10% penalty against Royal Canin USA for a late personal property return and authorized mailing of valuation notices.
The Dodge County Board of Supervisors meeting on July 10 included sessions of the Board of Equalization that addressed property valuation protests and tax matters.
The Board received 2024 Property Valuation Protests numbered #303–#776 and acted on 91 protests. With one dissent (Supervisor Backens) the Board accepted the assessor’s recommendations where the assessor and the referee agreed: the Board denied changes on 48 parcels, lowered building values on 41 parcels and lowered land values on two parcels.
The Board also upheld the Assessor’s recommendation to apply a 10% penalty to Royal Canin USA’s taxes due December 2024 after the company filed its 2024 personal property return 46 days late and submitted the wrong form (422A). Assessor Churchill said Royal Canin marked that it did not want to appear for a hearing.
County Assessor Churchill provided July 10 Board notices authorizing the County Clerk to mail valuation-change notices to property owners. The Board also approved using the State Print Shop to print postcards for the LB644 joint public hearing on the Property Tax Request Act.
One personal-property protest (J & S Farms filed by Steven Langemeier) was deferred because Langemeier had requested a hearing and had not been notified the item was on the agenda; County Clerk Micki Gilfry will mail notice for the July 24 Board of Equalization meeting.
The Board adjourned the Equalization session and will reconvene July 17, 2024.
