Ridgeley Township says it did not receive flood reimbursements; Board prompts county-level follow-up with FEMA/NEMA

Ridgeley Township Chairman Steve Helgenberger and Secretary Amanda Johnson asked the Dodge County Board of Supervisors on July 10 to review a claim that the township was not reimbursed $341,773.55 for expenses from the 2019 flood.
Helgenberger said Ridgeley Township contacted the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and, after review, NEMA determined the township did not receive funds from FEMA or NEMA for three projects that the township believes are tied to the $341,773.55 figure. Helgenberger told the Board the township had audited its records for three years without finding a payment and that township officials were not going to pursue the matter further themselves.
Amanda Johnson, Ridgeley Township secretary, said she registered with FEMA’s portal but did not understand the portal’s status and had not received further information. Helgenberger said the county told Ridgeley Township to hire the contractors and pay the bills for the projects.
County Attorney Hopkins questioned whether township representatives had used FEMA’s registration process; Johnson said she had registered but had not used the portal otherwise. Helgenberger urged the county to work with FEMA and NEMA to resolve the discrepancy.
The Board received the Ridgeley Township documents; no formal remedy was adopted at the July 10 meeting, and Helgenberger said the township did not plan to pursue the issue further on its own.
