The board approved a Supplemental Agreement for Observation of Construction with Speece Lewis a Bowman Company for Project 643 (Structure No. C002704710), advancing a project to replace a bridge with a box culvert at Luther Road and County Road S. Bids for the box culvert were scheduled to be opened March 12, and C F Industries indicated willingness to donate funds to improve the box culvert and intersection.
In addition, the board unanimously adopted a resolution to reduce the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph on a segment of Broad Street (US 77/275) near the Sapp Brothers Travel Center and authorized signatures on the resolution. Supervisor Strand asked whether an advance reduced‑speed sign could be added for northbound travelers; Superintendent Huppert said the county would need to obtain a state permit for additional signage.
The highway department also reported ongoing FEMA bank stabilization projects tied to storm damage from spring 2024, a site visit scheduled March 13 regarding County Road 6 at Riverview Shores, and plans to name an engineer March 19 for work on Morningside Road.
