Dodge County advances road safety projects, advertises gravel bids and adopts stop-sign resolution

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors on April 30 adopted a resolution certifying completion of the statewide project to upgrade stop sign locations on rural roads and authorized signatures, and unanimously authorized advertisement for 2025–2026 road gravel bids to be opened May 29, 2025.
Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert reported crews have installed the signs received to date and that about 80 more signs remain to be installed starting in September 2025. He said employees are installing field entrances for farmers, cleaning ditches (including removal of windblown corn stalks remaining from FEMA-related work), removing trees along Platte River Road with debris taken to the county yard, and finishing approaches to a railroad crossing ahead of a bridge replacement that will use box culverts.
Huppert told the board he has been discussing warning signs or flashing lights with the State for County Road 4 where Platte River Road ends; barricades at that location have been knocked down repeatedly and state staff suggested rumble bars as one option. He also said plans for a crossing and lights on County Road 6 at Riverview Shores are being developed and that Western Engineering will regrind and relay asphalt on Old Highway 275 this summer. Huppert said he is attempting to arrange a meeting with Burns & McDonnell, engineers for the Fremont Municipal Inland Port Authority project, and the Port Authority Board to coordinate work on Morningside Road.
The board unanimously approved the advertisement to accept gravel bids at the Dodge County Highway Department on May 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
