Dodge County board approves $125,000 in CVB grants for ice rink, auditorium and ball fields

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved three grants recommended by the Fremont & Dodge County Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee totaling $125,000 during its April 30, 2025 meeting.
Molly Paden, executive director of the Fremont & Dodge County CVB, told the board the advisory committee recommended $25,000 to the Fremont Ice Association to cover plumbing, electrical and boiler work and to help the organization reach a point of self-sufficiency so it would not need repeated requests for assistance. "The Fremont Ice Association plans to get the organization to a point where they are self-sustaining," Paden said according to the meeting record.
The board also approved $50,000 to the City of Scribner to replace the Mohr Auditorium HVAC system after a fire destroyed the previous unit; Paden said insurance will not cover the full replacement. The board approved a second $50,000 award to Schilke Ball Fields to install artificial turf on the infields of one baseball field and one softball field to address persistent drainage problems that force frequent rescheduling and relocation of games.
Supervisor Bendig reminded the board that the CVB budget is funded by motel taxes and that the awards do not come from the county general fund. The actions were approved unanimously by the five supervisors present.
The CVB awards will be implemented through the CVB Advisory Committee process; Paden indicated recipients will use the funds for the stated capital repairs and upgrades.
