Ansonia Board approves budget transfer, athletic funding access and hears routine district reports

The Ansonia Board of Education on Sept. 10 approved a budget transfer from the district to the high school, unanimously passing a motion recorded 7–0.
School Business Administrator Mr. Marriott explained the transfer and recent line-item changes driven by grant requirements, and said auditors were on site with "no concerns." He reported a McKinney-Vento grant of approximately $9,000 that will require Board approval once funds arrive and said an Alliance Grant application has been submitted to the state; he noted grant funds are coming in slowly and will be returned to the city when received.
Athletic Director Mr. Brockett updated the Board on the Nolan Field project, saying Phase 1 is near completion and Phase 2 will begin shortly; teams will transition to the new complex in the coming weeks. He said three of four teams have started their seasons and the district has begun charging admission to help funding. In response to a question from Board member Chris Phipps, Mr. Brockett confirmed soccer and baseball will have night games.
The Board also approved a motion giving Coach Brockett, Mr. Marriott and Superintendent DiBacco authority to "maneuver ways inside the budget" to put funds toward the JV and middle-school athletic programs; that motion passed 7–0.
Other informational reports during the meeting included an update from Director of Food Service Kevin Benham on summer program results and equipment priorities at the Middle School, an introduction of new Special Education Director Nicole Fenech who reported 477 identified students receiving services, a facilities update on a resolved fuel leak and an upcoming high school roof bid, and Superintendent DiBacco's overview of internships, pathway programs and audit coordination with the city.
