Stamford School District reviews annual assessment calendar and plans common formative assessments

At the Sept. 3 workshop, staff reviewed the district's assessment calendar, explaining it sets testing windows for elementary, middle and high schools and will be supplemented by winter and spring releases and a package of common formative assessments planned for board review in October.
Amy Delgadia, who said she oversees teaching and learning, told the board the calendar is shared with teachers, administrators and central-office staff so everyone knows administration dates and windows. "We set the testing windows at the beginning of the year for all of the various assessments that must be given," she said.
Board members asked whether the calendar will distinguish summative and formative measures and whether midterms and finals will appear. Delgadia said some assessments serve both purposes — informing instruction and counting for grades — and noted the SBAC is the primary end-of-year summative test used for trend analysis.
Delgadia said the district will present a fuller list of common formative assessments in October, including a range of performance tasks (projects, lab reports, DBQs) and that teachers have asked for common assessments across the district. The calendar and planned common-assessment information are intended to help principals and supervisors monitor curriculum implementation and student progress.
The presentation closed with an invitation to board members to request one-on-one demonstrations of district data resources if they want more detail.
