City attorney reports on dilapidated properties; council prepares inspection warrants

City Attorney Andy Carothers updated the Wymore City Council on efforts to address dilapidated and fire‑damaged properties.
Carothers said he spoke with Bob Tiemann about the Gambles building demolition; hauling is nearly finished and backfilling with dirt should follow, with an invoice expected in early October. He reported sending three letters to owners of dilapidated houses and said he is preparing paperwork to obtain inspection warrants where entry has not been granted. He will send a request-for-entry letter to the Sommerville residence and plans to follow up with Harry Lovell about a 7th Street property. The council discussed possible funding to tear down the house at 214 N 8th and is working on rebuilding efforts for 318 N 5th, which had caught fire.
Carothers also said he would prepare the report required by the state in November related to the Gambles property work.
