Council authorizes PDAC to review school resource officer contract and pursue recruiting help

The Wymore City Council authorized its Police Department Advisory Committee (PDAC) to pursue two personnel- and public-safety-related initiatives at its Aug. 20 meeting.
On a motion by Councilperson Neil Van Boening, seconded by Max Allen, the council allowed PDAC to review a cooperative contract between the City of Wymore, Southern Schools and the Gage County sheriff that would combine school resource officer duties with patrol responsibilities; the motion carried 4-0. The minutes record that PDAC advises moving forward with the cooperative opportunity and that the position would be through the sheriff’s office.
Separately, PDAC brought forward the idea of hiring a recruiting agency to assist with searches for open police department positions and requested involvement from application through interview. On a motion by Neil Van Boening, seconded by Sue Sapp, the council authorized PDAC to pursue a recruiting agency for the police department; the motion carried 4-0.
Both authorizations are at the review and planning stage: the council granted PDAC the authority to review and pursue options but did not adopt a final intergovernmental agreement or sign a contract during the meeting. Any contract terms, costs, and final approvals would require subsequent review and formal action by the council.
