Wymore council approves routine business, hires lineman and keeps tax levy unchanged

The Wymore City Council approved routine minutes, payroll and claims and took several personnel and procedural actions at its Aug. 20 meeting.

Councilperson Max Allen moved and Curt Oblinger seconded approval of the minutes of the previous meeting; the motion carried 4-0. The council then approved claims and payroll with the exception of checks #30191 and #30229 (motion by Allen, seconded by Oblinger; carried 4-0). The council separately approved check #30229 (carried 3-0 with Councilperson Max Allen abstaining) and check #30191 (carried 3-0 with Councilperson Curt Oblinger abstaining). Sue Sapp moved and Max Allen seconded approval of the Treasurer’s Report; the motion carried 4-0.

On personnel, Curt Oblinger moved and Max Allen seconded to hire Jayden Borns for the lineman position; the motion carried 4-0. Borns told the council he recently finished work with Lincoln Electric System and is seeking hands-on experience in a smaller community.

The council also reviewed the tax levy and, on a motion by Max Allen seconded by Sue Sapp, voted to keep the levy the same as reflected by the county’s figure; the motion carried 4-0.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Councilperson Sue Sapp; the council adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
