Sharon Conservation Commission outlines regional light-pollution talk, invasive-plant program and Historic Society cooperation

Chair Bethany Sheffer told the Sharon Conservation Commission at its Feb. 18, 2026 meeting that the Commission is co-sponsoring a regional educational program on light pollution with the Salisbury and Cornwall conservation commissions. The program is scheduled for Feb. 26, 6:00–7:30 p.m., at the Sharon Audubon Center.
Sheffer said she expects to circulate audio of Craig Repasz of Lights Out Connecticut describing initiatives some towns have taken to curtail light pollution. The Commission discussed a potential follow-up program that could feature a panel addressing effects on insects (an entomologist), effects on human health (a medical professional), and an astronomy/dark-sky expert.
The Commission also described its "Heroes and Villains" non-native invasive plant education series. The second session is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, 10:00–11:30 a.m., with speakers Mike Nadeau and Tom Zetterstrom. The minutes state the first session was well attended (standing room only) and that sessions are being recorded and posted on the Sharon Land Trust YouTube page.
Separately, Sheffer reported meeting with Abbey Nova, the new executive director of the Sharon Historical Society, to discuss possible Commission participation in the Society’s monthly History Club sessions in June or July and further coordination on a walking tour of a recreational easement.
The minutes record these items for outreach and education; no funding decisions or formal votes on the programs were recorded at the meeting. The Commission’s next meeting is set for March 18, 2026.
