Sharon Conservation Commission approves revised mission statement, forwards it to First Selectman

The Sharon Conservation Commission unanimously approved a revised mission statement at its Feb. 18, 2026 meeting and directed Chair Bethany Sheffer to forward the text to the First Selectman for consideration by the Board of Selectmen.
The vote followed a procedural motion to approve the January 2026 meeting minutes. James Krissel (motion) and Edmund Mander (second) moved to approve the minutes, and the Commission voted unanimously to adopt them. Later in the meeting, Carl Chaiet moved and James Krissel seconded a motion to approve the revised mission statement; that motion also passed unanimously.
The revised mission statement, as recorded in the minutes, says the Commission’s role is “to support the stewardship of our town’s natural and heritage resources for the benefit of the people of Sharon.” It says the Commission will develop and promote initiatives to sustain native plants and animal life, water and other resources, and will operate “together with other initiatives within the scope of conservation commissions under state law.” The statement also notes the Commission’s role in monitoring and promoting the use of Sharon’s trails for which members of the public have an easement for designated recreational uses.
