Selectmen set interviews for two town jobs, approve events and appoint Peter Takiff to housing board

On Feb. 10 the Sharon Board of Selectmen selected applicants to interview for Facilities Maintainer and Recreation Director, approved a Crafts Fair and a road race, and appointed Peter Takiff to the Sharon Housing Authority Board with a term to Oct. 29, 2030.
At the Feb. 10 meeting the Sharon Board of Selectmen reviewed applications for two town positions, approved community event requests and appointed a new member to the Sharon Housing Authority Board.
The board selected applicants by assigned numbers to invite for 20‑minute interviews. For Non‑CDL Facilities Maintainer (six applicants) the board chose applicants numbered 1–5; for Recreation Director (eight applicants) it chose applicants numbered 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8. Interview panels will include Board of Selectmen members, Donna Christensen (chair, Parks & Recreation Committee), Matt Andrulis Mette, one other Parks & Recreation Committee member and Jamie Reid (Road Foreman). Possible interview dates are Feb. 18, 25 or 26 beginning at 4:30 PM; First Selectman Flanagan will organize the schedule.
During the meeting the board approved a Parks & Recreation application to use the town Green on Aug. 1, 2026 for a Crafts Fair (motion by Mr. Brett, passed "all in favor"). The Voice of Arts withdrew its previously approved September art festival. The Sharon Day Care’s request to use town roads for its May 2, 2026 road race — on the same route used in prior years — was approved after a motion by Ms. Kearcher (passed "all in favor").
Peter Takiff submitted a letter of interest for the Sharon Housing Authority Board; Ms. Kearcher moved to appoint him to the board with a term to Oct. 29, 2030, seconded by Mr. Brett, and the motion passed "all in favor."
Community updates included a volunteer group planning a town newsletter (meeting Feb. 17 or 19), a Sharon Day Care fundraiser in Amenia the evening of Feb. 10 from 6–8 PM, and town informational postcards that were mailed to postal patrons with Cornwall addresses to be mailed separately. With no further business the board adjourned at 4:16 PM.
