Middlefield Park & Recreation plans pavilion bathroom upgrades; rental rates to remain for now

The Town of Middlefield Park and Recreation Commission heard updates Jan. 8 on planned pavilion bathroom improvements aimed at meeting the Americans with Disabilities Act standards and on related rental arrangements.
Mary, a commission staff member, told members the pavilion upgrades under consideration include flashing, interior wall and toilet replacement, replacement of door frames to meet ADA standards and installation of locks on timers. She said the health department will perform an inspection of the community center kitchen to determine any required upgrades before final decisions are made.
Commission members were told that Peckham Pavilion rental rates will remain unchanged for 2026 "for now," pending confirmation about whether updated bathroom facilities will be included in rentals. The commission did not adopt a new fee schedule at the meeting.
The meeting minutes also recorded routine park maintenance and related facilities items: a tree that fell at Peckham Park was cut up and removed by a town employee, and Mary said she met with Andrew about storage-space requests from Coginchaug Soccer and Cub/Troop 33 Scouts and asked that Andrew wait until policies are in place before changes are implemented.
Mary said she will request a bid for a maintenance plan from the vendor that sold the commission’s Kubota equipment and will circulate the draft policies and rules to commission members ahead of a public hearing that the commission plans to schedule. Mary and Pete also attempted to remove graffiti at a park; members were told by Bob that graffiti incidents should be reported to police and that DMYFS was provided with information to work with the family involved.
Next steps: staff will pursue the health department inspection, obtain the Kubota maintenance bid and schedule the public hearing on the draft policies and park rules.
