Sharon Board advances multiple administrative and student policies to second reading; superintendent to consult counsel on bylaws

At its Feb. 9 meeting the Sharon Board of Education moved a set of policies to second reading, spanning family and medical leave, nondiscrimination, library material review, student work-study, service animals and multiple administrative organization and governance items.
The Board moved the following to second read: 4152.6 (Family and Medical Leave Act), 0521 (Nondiscrimination), 6161.12 (Library Material Review and Reconsideration), 6161.13 (Library Collection Development and Maintenance), 5113.13 (Work-Study Student Employment Work Release) and a Service Animals policy. The Board also advanced administrative policies including 2100 (Administrative Staff Organization), 2112 (Professional Development), 2121 (Lines of Responsibility), 2131 (Superintendent of Schools), 2200 (Administrative Operations), 2210 (Administrative Leeway in Absence of Board Policy), 2220 (Representative and Deliberate Groups), 2230 (Control and Communication Channels & Systems), 2231 (Policy and Regulations Systems), 2300 (Code of Ethics) and 2410 (Administrative Organization).
Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley said she will consult the law firm Shipman & Goodwin for recommendations concerning the 9000 series of bylaws; the policy subcommittee will review and tailor counsel’s recommendations for the Sharon Board of Education.
The minutes do not record substantive debate on individual policy provisions; the items were moved to second read so that the board and public may review the text before final adoption.
