Wymore — The Wymore City Council voted on July 16 to proceed with acquisition of the property at 422 N 7th St after a public hearing required by state law. City Attorney Andy Carothers cited Nebraska Statute 18-1755, which mandates a public hearing whenever a municipality acquires property, including donations.
Carothers told the council the recorded owner of 422 N 7th St indicated he has the deed and would execute a quitclaim deed to transfer the property to the city. Carothers also reported a title search found no judgments transcribed to Gage County but noted there may be another possible owner; council members instructed staff and the attorney to investigate ownership and any encumbrances before finalizing the transfer. The council then approved a motion to move forward with the acquisition.
The meeting also addressed local code enforcement and grant deadlines related to a dilapidated building at 217 S 7th. The contractor has not committed to a demolition date; Attorney Carothers said the contractor was told demolition must be completed by Sept. 1 so final paperwork can be filed in time for a grant. Carothers said he expects contractor Chet McGrury to inspect another property at 320 S 9th; Utilities Superintendent Tim Sedlacek will provide additional addresses and photographs to the attorney for follow-up.
Separately, the council discussed the 2025-2026 LARM Pool insurance renewal and asked City Clerk Janet Riensche to clarify whether signing a three-year resolution to receive a 5% discount outweighs the current rate increase; the council voted to table further action until that information is provided. Council member Neil Van Boening asked about alcohol-related claim coverage; Attorney Carothers said he would contact Fred Wieblehaus and Clerk Riensche was asked to research event alcohol insurance options.
The council adjourned at 7:59 PM.
