Sanford planning commission recommends replacing outdated zoning map, continues ordinance review

The Village of Sanford Planning Commission met Oct. 7, 2025, at Jerome Township Hall and recommended the village council replace an outdated zoning map printed on page 99 of the 1998 zoning ordinance while continuing a page-by-page ordinance review.
The commission began its review on page 87 and recorded that pages 87–96 did not require changes. Commissioners agreed to ask the village council to review the appeal process described on those pages rather than to alter the commission’s findings.
“Page 99 in the zoning ordinance is an outdated zoning map of the village. The planning commission will recommend to the council that the outdated map be replaced by the new current zoning map.”
Commissioners also agreed to hold a full review of the ordinance changes at the next meeting before forwarding recommendations to the council. The commission approved the minutes from the Sept. 2, 2025 meeting (motion by Commissioner Carl Hamann; second by Commissioner Justin Laplow) and adjourned at 6:51 p.m. (motion to adjourn by Commissioner Justin Laplow; second by Commissioner Carl Hamann).
The planning commission did not receive any public comment at the meeting. The commission scheduled its next meeting for Nov. 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Jerome Township Hall, when it plans to complete a full review of proposed changes before sending recommendations to the village council.
