Resident urges town to trim branches obstructing speed-limit and pedestrian signs

During public comment, Tom Mann of Bucksport told the council that several speed-limit signs and small flashing pedestrian warning signs around town are obstructed by overhanging branches, reducing visibility for drivers unfamiliar with local streets.
"There are an awful lot of speed limit signs and the little flashing lights saying don't run over me that are obstructed by branches," Mann said, noting that depending on sun angle and speed a driver may not see them in time. He asked the town to inspect and trim vegetation that blocks signs rather than taking matters into his own hands.
Councilors and staff acknowledged the concern, said tree and highway crews can address visibility issues, and noted that a larger traffic-signal upgrade is planned by the state later this year or next year to help with backups near Route 1 and the bridge. The council did not take formal action at the meeting but directed staff to follow up on sign visibility and vegetation trimming.
