Board hears safety and facilities updates: inspections compliant, boilers operational, volunteer grounds work under way

At the Oct. 14 meeting the board heard that a Fire Marshal inspection and the biennial safety/security assessment found Botelle Elementary in compliance; Superintendent Kevin D. Case reported newly installed boilers are operational and volunteers continue invasive‑plant removal.
John DeShazo, a board member who also serves as deputy fire marshal, presented the Fire Marshal's Inspection Report to the Norfolk Board of Education and reported that inspected areas were found to be in compliance.
Richard Byrne, the Town of Norfolk Emergency Management Director, told the board that the required Biennial Safety/Security Vulnerability Assessment for Botelle Elementary School has been completed and that the school is in compliance with Public Act 13-3, Section 86 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
Superintendent Kevin D. Case reported that newly installed boilers at Botelle Elementary are up and running. He also noted that volunteer Philip Lovett removed invasive plants behind the school and that additional volunteers are scheduled to continue the work on Sunday, Oct. 19.
The safety reports and facilities updates were presented for the board’s information; no formal vote was taken on safety findings at this meeting. The board accepted the reports as part of the regular agenda.
