Selectboard discusses Bond Street island redesign and launches townwide pavement inventory

Town staff recommended replacing or redesigning the deteriorating Bond Street island to improve safety and asked the board to consult NHDOT. The board also endorsed launching an RSMS with NRPC to inventory roads and compute a Pavement Condition Index over about a year.
Brookline staff told the Selectboard on March 31 that the Bond Street traffic island is deteriorating and contributing to wrong-way driving where paint has faded. Scott Leard recommended replacing or redesigning the island and suggested the town later consider narrowing the roadway or adding sidewalks as part of a longer-term project; he urged consultation with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation before any reconfiguration that might affect grandfathered conditions.
The board also heard that the Nashua Regional Planning Commission will perform a Road Surface Management System (RSMS) assessment to inventory town roads and produce a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) by quarter-mile segments. Scott said the RSMS kickoff meeting had taken place and asked the board to provide an endorsement letter; the board agreed to prepare the letter and noted the RSMS would take about a year to complete.
No formal vote was required for the Bond Street discussion. The RSMS request will be carried forward for an endorsement letter and further discussion of gravel-road paving priorities and traffic-count data.
