LaTonya "Tony" Wright sworn in as South Fulton councilmember for District 3

LaTonya "Tony" Wright was sworn in as the City of South Fulton councilmember for District 3 during a brief ceremony in which Judge Sheridan administered the oath and City Clerk Corey Adams presided. Wright was elected by District 3 residents on Tuesday, June 16, and the Fulton County Board of Elections certified the result the day before, the clerk said.

Wright said she was honored to represent her district and framed her approach to government around collaboration and resident engagement. "This is indeed the day that the Lord has made. I shall rejoice and be oh so glad in it," she said, adding, "District 3, we're going to continue to rise."

The reading presented at the ceremony said Wright is originally from Roanoke, Alabama, earned degrees in psychology from Southern Union State Community College and Auburn University at Montgomery, and later worked in the logistics industry before settling in South Fulton. Wright, and stated that her father "served for 32 years" and was the first African-American county commissioner in Randolph County, Alabama; that claim was presented by Wright during her introduction at the ceremony.

After the oath the clerk closed the program and explained that the city's charter prescribes regular swearing-in ceremonies in January but does not address unexpired terms, which is why this midterm swearing-in took place outside the usual schedule.
