Rushford Village Council approves routine business, two-year fire contract and audit quote

The Rushford Village Council approved a slate of routine items and two contracted services during its Oct. 7 meeting.
Clerk Mary Miner presented the financial report for September, showing expenses of $42,101.23, receipts of $9,997.89, outstanding checks of $19,482.56 and a bank balance of $183,689.56. The council voted to approve the financials (motion by Councilmember Robert Hart; second by Mike Ebner). The council also approved minutes from Sept. 16 and Sept. 23 and the meeting agenda, each by recorded motion and noted as carried.
On contracts, the council approved a two-year Rushford Fire Department contract for 2026–2027 at the same rate as 2024–2025: $24,638.13 per year. The motion to approve the fire mill rate contract was made by Hart and seconded by Rick Ruberg and recorded as carried. The council also accepted an audit proposal from Engelson and Associates not to exceed $11,500; Hart moved the approval and Ebner seconded the motion.
The council considered a request to allow community hall rentals during council meeting nights and rejected the request, citing the city’s priority for governmental activities and concerns about potential disruptions. The motion not to allow rentals during meeting nights was made by Hart and seconded by Link and carried.
