John DeShazo elected chair as Norfolk Board reorganizes leadership

The Norfolk Board of Education elected John DeShazo as board chair and Virginia Coleman-Prisco as vice chair at its regular meeting on Dec. 9, 2025. Donna Rubin nominated DeShazo; the nomination was seconded by Coleman-Prisco and the board approved the nomination unanimously.
Superintendent Kevin D. Case opened nominations and the board later approved Amy Bennett as board secretary after a nomination from Jeremy Withnell. The board also tabled a proposed schedule of meeting dates until its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting.
The reorganizational business followed approval of the Oct. 14, 2025 minutes and routine financial reports. In his remarks, Superintendent Case thanked departing volunteers Janet Byrne and Jay Whitaker for their service (2021–2025) and congratulated returning and newly elected members, including DeShazo, Donna Rubin, Michael Listorti and Jeremy Withnell.
Next steps: the board will revisit the meeting calendar at the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting and proceed with regular committee work under the newly elected officers.
