At its March 3 meeting the Pella City Council approved the plans and awarded the construction contract for the Apron Expansion Paving – Pella Municipal Airport – 2026 to TK Concrete for $445,930.
Public Works staff and the project engineer presented the Feb. 24 bid opening results: six bids were received with TK Concrete submitting the low, responsive bid of $445,930; the engineer’s estimate was $615,452. The apron paving portion totals $395,400 and is eligible for 60% reimbursement under a previously approved Iowa DOT grant; the access road paving portion totals $50,530 and is not eligible for grant funding.
Staff summarized the financial responsibilities for the project as $237,240 from the IDOT grant and $208,690 from the City of Pella. The contract award included standard terms and a projected final completion date of Sept. 25, 2026.
Council voted (AYES: 4, NAYS: None) to adopt the project plans and make the award of the construction contract to TK Concrete, following the engineer’s recommendation and staff concurrence.
Next steps: execute contract with TK Concrete and proceed with construction per contract schedule and grant reimbursement procedures.
