Pella Planning & Zoning approves 538‑sq‑ft addition to Community Center

The Pella Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 23 unanimously approved a site plan to add up to 538 square feet to the Pella Community Center at 712 Union St. and to install up to 1,576 square feet of paving.
Planning and Zoning Department staff told the commission the property is designated “Civic/Public” on the City’s Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use Map and that the proposed addition conforms to Chapter 165.36(F)(3) of the city’s zoning code. Staff recommended approval as submitted; no special conditions were attached to this approval.
Commissioner Joe Canfield moved to approve the site plan and Commissioner Cathy Haustein seconded; the motion carried 6-0. Members recorded present were Sarah Buchheit (via telephone), Joe Canfield, Julio Chiarella, Cathy Haustein, Ann Visser and Chairperson Teri Vos.
The approval allows the city to proceed with building design and permitting under the zoning code and the Comprehensive Plan. The minutes do not specify a construction start date or additional funding details.
