Windsor Locks forms K‑5 literacy team to align instruction with Connecticut Literacy Model

Windsor Locks Public Schools on March 25 announced a new K‑5 District Literacy Team designed to align elementary literacy instruction with the Connecticut Literacy Model (CTLM). Principal Giovanna Testani and Director of STEAM Curriculum Megan Parrette described the team’s membership and its role in building a district literacy plan.
The team will include district and school administration, instructional specialists, general and special education teachers, an EL coordinator, a union representative and a family coordinator. Testani and Parrette said the district plan will prioritize K‑3 reading, high‑quality classroom instruction, intensive interventions, assessment to inform instruction, ongoing coaching for teachers and family engagement in support of the science of reading.
District leaders said the team will drive systems and processes to support multi‑tiered assessment and instruction, monitor implementation across schools and promote equitable access to research‑based literacy instruction. No formal vote was required to form the team; the presentation was informational. The Board received the report and had a brief discussion.
