Windsor Locks Board accepts donated AEDs for schools; community groups and foundation thanked

The Windsor Locks Board of Education on March 25 accepted three Zoll automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for district schools, approving the donations unanimously and recognizing the community donors.
Superintendent Shawn Parkhurst outlined three gifts: an In a Heartbeat Foundation donation of a Zoll semi‑automatic AED to South Elementary (approximate value $1,400) and a Windsor Locks Raiders Booster Club purchase of two Zoll AED Plus units for $2,800 funded by a contribution from USA Hauling and Recycling. The booster club’s intended use was temporary lighting for football games, but after a recent Windsor football tragedy those funds were repurposed to buy AEDs for the high school athletic program; the booster club will allow an existing AED to be transferred to the middle school. Nursing Supervisor Lisa Ciaffaglione advised the board on AED selection.
The board approved the acceptance of the three AEDs with a motion by L. Cutler, seconded by A. Osorio, recorded as unanimous. The minutes note gratitude to In a Heartbeat Foundation, the Windsor Locks Raiders Booster Club, USA Hauling and Recycling, First Selectman Paul Harrington for facilitating the donation, and Nursing Supervisor Ciaffaglione for assistance.
