Windsor Locks Board accepts six resignations, approves multiple policies in second reading

The Windsor Locks Board of Education on May 14, 2024 accepted six resignations from district staff and approved a slate of policy updates on second reading.
Director of Human Resources Robert Stacy told the board he had received six resignations representing a combined 38 years of service to the district. The resignations accepted by the board, effective June 30, 2024, included: Keith Burns, arts teacher at North Street School (one year); Jennifer Hofmann, social studies teacher at Windsor Locks Middle School (17 years); Bridget Kayan, language arts teacher at Windsor Locks Middle School (three years); Rachel Kohl, language arts teacher at Windsor Locks Middle School (one year); Sara St. Germain, elementary teacher at North Street School (eight years); and Justin Waterman, English teacher at Windsor Locks High School (eight years). The board moved, seconded and unanimously accepted the resignations and offered appreciation for each employee's service.
Stacy also presented planned updates to non-union job descriptions and submitted the Director of Special Services job description for a first read; the board agreed to bring that job description back for a second read at the June 13, 2024 regular meeting.
On policy matters the board approved ten items on second reading, including policy 3541.5 (Reporting of Transportation Safety Complaints); food services personnel policies 3542.22, 3542.41 and 3542.43; 4111.3 (Increasing Educator Diversity); 6115.2 (School Ceremonies and Observances); 6142.104 (Play Based Learning); 6171.2 (Preschool Students with Disabilities); and 6172 (Title I Parent Involvement and Alternative Education Programs). Stacy noted the district submitted the Increasing Educator Diversity Plan to the State Department of Education; feedback that had been expected earlier in May was pushed to an October 1, 2024 timeline by the state.
The board approved the listed policies unanimously and will return to the Director of Special Services job description for a final reading in June.
