Commission approves minor septic modification at 17 Forest Road after contractor altered water-line placement

The Westford Conservation Commission approved a minor modification June 24 for work at 17 Forest Road after the project team said a water line was installed through the originally planned septic-tank location.
Mark Slayton of Allen Engineering told the commission the contractor installed a water line through the planned tank footprint, requiring an alternate tank location. He said the new location remains more than 50 feet from the wetland and conforms with Massachusetts Title 5 septic requirements; the Board of Health had already approved the revision.
The applicant also proposed replacing the leaching field with a smaller-footprint GeoMat system to reduce disturbance. Commission members asked for clarification about whether the leach-field replacement resulted from the water-line relocation; the applicant said the leach-field replacement was an independent decision to provide a brand‑new septic system for a new house.
After a brief public and commissioner exchange, a motion to approve the change as a minor modification passed.
