County moves ahead with tourism website contract and additional engineering for event-center RV park

Kim Bokeut, director of the event center and tourism, told commissioners the county will contract with Fine Design Group to create a new Cowlitz County tourism website; the existing visitmountsthelens.com site will remain focused on Mount St. Helens content while the new site will host broader county tourism content and be phased in over 12–36 months.
Bokeut also presented an amendment (approximately $87,200) to the county's professional-services agreement with Gibbs & Olsson for schematic design, boundary-line adjustment, 30-percent design documents, a preliminary storm-water technical memo and a zoning-text amendment related to an RV-park proposed on event-center parcels. She said the county's rural economic development grant provided about $900,000 originally; roughly $60,000 has been spent to date and the amendment would be paid from that existing award to complete engineering groundwork before seeking construction grants.
Commissioners asked whether the RV-park funding was shovel-ready; Bokeut said the work funded by the amendment is intended to build the project to shovel-ready status for subsequent construction grants. The board asked staff to watch timing and ensure reimbursements and grant requirements are satisfied before committing funds.
