Risk Management reports $275,751 in claims paid year‑to‑date and seven SAM claims under review

Shelly said the department recorded 51 total incidents year‑to‑date and 13 workers' compensation claims for 2026; 12 workers' comp claims remained open as of June 22. "Total paid out for all claims as of yesterday was $275,751.13," she reported, and total year‑to‑date accrued costs were about $558,122.68.
On liability claims, Shelly said the county has 17 liability claims and seven SAM (sexual abuse/assault) claims; the risk pool is investigating the SAM claims and examining claim legitimacy, interview findings and potential settlement options. "We're waiting to see once we do our investigation on these claims for legitimacy of the claims," she said, adding that the risk pool would meet with county staff to review details.
Shelly also described efforts to digitize forms (COI requests, incident/accident forms and workers' comp packets), new quarterly CPR training for staff, and that completion rates for some mandated LMS training modules (chemical handling, blood‑borne pathogens, cybersecurity) are behind schedule.
The board did not take public votes on the claims; Shelly said the risk pool is studying options including targeted settlements but gave no final recommendation during the meeting.
