At its June 22 meeting the North Vernon City Council approved several routine measures, including a parks department request to waive the stage rental fee for the city’s Fourth of July celebration and a salary‑ordinance amendment for the street department.
Parks staffer Bailey told the council two performers are scheduled for the Fourth of July and asked that the city waive the stage fee for that event; the council discussed whether to extend the waiver to all internal city events and ultimately approved the fee waiver by voice vote.
The council then approved a salary-ordinance amendment to adjust a street-department pay step, reducing the hourly rate for the new hire from $21.36 to $20.00 and adopting the change to salary ordinance 1028 by voice vote.
Council approved payroll claims in the amount of $27,840 and claims totaling $171,394.31. A council member asked whether the claims included final payment on the police station project; staff answered that the final payment has not been made and about $50,000 remains on the project with a punch list outstanding.
All routine motions were approved by voice vote and the meeting adjourned at approximately 5:22 p.m.
